Technologic development: here it is the main factor of the emergence of the Industrial Revolution and simultaneously of the appearance of the Modern English. In fact, as the Industrial Revolution influenced the mentality of society, Technology and the aspects of the English language evolved in consonance, becoming English the global language of Industry.

The Industrialization introduced a variety of new terms to the English language. For example, words and expressions like power, mechanic mills, locomotive, mass production, stock exchange, railroad and factory became part of the vocabulary.
As you may verify, the inventions in the field of Technology, like the steam engine, by James Watt, accompanied the introduction of vocabulary in the English language. As the technological inventions made people life easier, with the improvement of leisure, and in the meantime more difficult, because the fact that the Industrial Revolution was followed by the appearance of vast social contrasts, English started to be spoken in business and between workers. The economical power of the Great Britain and the United States create a larger expansion of the English language than in times of colonization, consolidating its permanence in the English-spoken countries.

Nowadays, the influence of this period in the English language reflects in all types of media, from television to the Internet. We, as non-native speakers, have to use English in our daily life, from negotiations and international relations to science. The Globalization is understood to be an expansion of the values and concepts inherent to the American culture. In other terms, Globalization is understood as Americanization.

Since the Olduvai stone technology to the 21st century technology, the development of humanity has been accompanied by the social ideals of Man and the economic advance of each Culture. Society and Economy could be considered so the major influences of Technology. However, Technology is deeply related to Science. In fact, Technology is the trial of Science. The scientific concerns influence all the technological development, like the influence of laws of Physics concerning the invention of wheel and the influence of Biology and Anatomy concerning our knowledge of the human constitution. For that reason, the concepts related to Science correspond to the ones related to Technology.
However, Technology comprises, beyond scientific aspects, social and intellectual concerns. Along History, the greatest scholars have been contributing to the Human development of Technology. In this blog, I will discuss the scientific and human aspects related to Technology, referencing the main entities that influenced the technology development.
